Hiking the Cable Bay Walkway

Cable Bay Walkway Nelson

Looking down over stunning Cable Bay.

Whether you’re a local Nelsonian or just travelling through, the Cable Bay walkway is a MUST! Expect stunning cliff-top coastal views of the bay, the boulderbank and Pepin Island.

Distance: 8km one-way
Elevation: 650m gain

I’d recommend starting from Glenduan and finishing up at Rotokura/Cable Bay to make the most of the views.. And also to stop by the Cable Bay Cafe afterwards for a coffee and a tasty treat!

Before you go you’ll need to organise transport, some options include: car swapping with a friend, parking a car at each end or getting a lift (or hitching if that’s your thing).

After starting out with a grunty climb, you’ll enter a section of beautiful native forest that gently undulates and is filled with incredible mushrooms this time of year!

Say howdy to the local residents 🐄🐑 - they’re friendly I promise 😉
